Turning a vision into a growing business
Cambridge Prosthetics started from the idea of an experienced materials scientist and lifelong prosthetics wearer, and a leading rehabilitation consultant at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. They were frustrated with the increasingly expensive and complex devices that failed to meet users’ needs, especially children, and set out to create a new generation of prosthetic limbs that are more versatile, reliable, affordable and available worldwide, supporting SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing).
3B Impact joined the founder team and helped Cambridge Prosthetics with:
- Assisting to establish the company and win seed funding from the UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
- Following a successful prototype phase, securing follow-on funding and incorporating human-centred design processes. We later brought in an experienced CEO and secured private investment to go from prototype to product.
“The impact approach managed by 3B Impact for the Cambridge Prosthetics consortium was notable in its clarity and focus. It played a key role in helping the consortium innovate child-focused prosthetics and position it for scale.”
